Athens Day One
Arrived in this ancient city. No passport check or customs. Having a wheelchair greet Bonnie at the plane sure eliminates any lines or hassle, we just follow along. The young man pushing her and carrying her bag was a beautiful Greek that both ladies fell for… got in our taxi and headed for our hotel directly below the Acropolis.
Took another taxi and met Christina, a very knowledgeable and friendly lady and joined another eight people and began our journey. I’ll let the following pictures speak for themselves.
First stop was a deli, presented wine, various dried meats and several cheeses. Found that real feta comes from sheep, not from cows like home.
Next stop a gyro shop with the most delicious wraps we ever ate. Homemade pita with turmeric, pork, fresh tomatoes and a brilliant tzatziki sauce.
Then to a very famous pizza place where we ate spanakopita with spinach, dill and various other delights followed by some custard dessert. We had yet to go for our main meal…
Here is a video of this 100 year old cafe, owned by the same family.
The foods ranged from zucchini balls to fried calamari, pepper’s stuffed with rice and vegetables to greek salad with fresh onions and tomatoes. We also sampled several relishes and hummus. Discovered that real hummus is made from fava beans, not chickpeas. Had beer and wine. Bonnie out eat us both.
We then went to some famous dessert place where we ate some donut things with honey and pistachio sauce that originated in 776 BC.
Great time had by all. Now full, buzzed and exhausted. Found that taxis here can also be secured via Uber. Back to the hotel where I was able to sleep until 2:30 this morning…

Great blog! Photo and narration xcellent. Can tell you’re having a good start to your journey
